Inexpensive fittings for HDPE pipes are gradually replacing their steel predecessors. They are made of durable material, easily dismantled in the event of leaks in the pipeline, do not oxidize, do not rust and last much longer than their metal counterparts. However, before using them, you must familiarize yourself with the different types of products, their structure and installation rules.
What is a fitting?
Fittings are one of the types of pipeline fittings, which are devices of various geometric shapes with several holes for fastening pipes.
Device and purpose
The design features of fittings for HDPE pipes are the simplicity of each such detail. All such products consist of a body with different configurations and bore diameters, made of brass or XLPE.
Compression steam fittings Malaysia are additionally equipped with a rubber O-ring, a split ferrule and a union nut. The design of a compression fitting for HDPE pipes includes a compression sleeve, a union and a nut. The electro welded device has a heating wire at the ends, which, under the influence of an electric current, heats the polyethylene to a molten state.
HDPE pipe fittings are used for:
Connections of parts of the pipeline in places of turns or branches, as well as splices of pipes of different standard sizes.
Ensuring a hermetic shut-off of the movement of the flow of the working medium, if necessary.
Acceleration of assembly or disassembly of certain sections of the pipeline for repair or replacement of its constituent elements.
What pressure can HDPE pipe fittings withstand?
The working pressure of the connectors for HDPE pipes is set at 6, 10, 16 and 20 atmospheres.
Connecting parts for HDPE pipes have the same advantages that are inherent in all polymer products:
- Low weight.
- Wide range of products.
- Relatively low price.
- Ease of use and installation.
- Antibacterial effect.
- Resistant to aggressive chemicals.
- Dielectric properties.
- Absolute corrosion resistance.
- Good elasticity, so that the fittings are not affected by water hammer.
- Low thermal conductivity.
- Wear resistance.
- Smooth inner surface with low resistance to flow.
- High strength.
- Frost resistance. In case of freezing, polyethylene does not deform or crack.
- Perfectly seal joints.
- Long service life – from 50 years.
Classification and types
Depending on the design features and field of application, fittings for HDPE pipes are of the following types:
Coupling. Available in 3 versions:
Equal – for connecting rolled pipes of the same diameter.
Compensation – provides a transition from a larger to a smaller diameter.
Flanged – used for joining parts with a large diameter.
Adapter. It is used to connect shut-off and control mechanisms or pipes made of other materials to the pipeline.
Bend 45º, 66º or 90º. Installed where the pipeline changes direction.
Tee. Has three holes for connecting two branches to the main line.
Crosspiece. It is made in the form of two pieces of plastic pipes connected crosswise, located in the same plane. It is installed at the points of joining of three branches at right angles with the main line.
Saddle. It is used for the device of a secondary branch from the main line. By design, it is classified into:
The clamp is a crimp-type part.
Pad – welded to the HDPE pipe by electro-diffusion welding. Used for inserting new elements into an existing pipeline.
